Self-discipline
is the best discipline.
All powers relating to discipline and disciplinary action are
vested in the Vice-Chancellor. Without prejudice to the generality
of his/her powers relating to the maintenance of discipline and
taking such action in the interest of maintaining discipline as
may seem to him/her appropriate, the Vice-Chancellor may, in the
exercise of his/her powers aforesaid, order or direct :
(a) that any student or students be expelled; or
(b) any student or students be, for a stated period, rusticated;
or
(c) be not, for a stated period, admitted to a course or courses
of study in a College, Department or Institution of the University;
or
(d) be fined with a sum of rupees that may be specified; or
(e) be debarred from taking a University or College or Departmental
Examination or Examinations for one or more years; or
(f) that the result of the student or students concerned in the
Examination or Examinations in which she or they have appeared
be cancelled.
All the students are required to maintain discipline in the college.
In case of violation of any rule of discipline under Ordinance
XV-B, by any student, disciplinary action will be taken as per
the said Ordinance of the University.
Ragging is strictly prohibited in the college. Ragging in any
form will be considered as gross indiscipline and shall be dealt
with under Ordinance XV-C of the University. Wilful destruction
of institutional property and causing disruption in any manner
of the academic functioning of the College will be considered
as gross misconduct and shall be dealt with under Ordinance XV-B.
The Principals of the Colleges, Heads of the Halls, Deans of the
Faculties, Heads of Teaching Departments in the University, the
Principal, School of Correspondence Courses and Continuing Education
and Librarian shall have the authority to exercise all such disciplinary
powers over students in their respective Colleges, Institutions,
Faculties and Teaching Departments, in the University as may be
necessary for the proper conduct of the Institutions, Halls and
teaching in the concerned department. They may exercise their
authority through, or delegate authority to, such of the teachers
in their Colleges, Institutions or Departments as they may specify
for these purposes. Without prejudice to the powers of the Vice-Chancellor
and the Proctor as aforesaid, detailed rules of discipline and
proper conduct shall be framed. These rules may be supplemented,
where necessary, by the Principals of Colleges, Heads of Halls,
Deans of Faculties and Heads of Teaching Departments in this University.
Each student shall be expected to provide herself with a copy
of these rules.
Playing Holi inside the College premises is strictly prohibited.
Disciplinary action will be taken against the student guilty of
violating this rule.
Proctorial Board
A Proctorial Board consisting of the members of the teaching staff
and student class representatives, will be jointly responsible
for the maintenance of general discipline in the college. The
following code of conduct is expected from the students.
Code of Conduct
1. To carry Identity and library card to college every day.
2. To maintain silence in the 'Silence Zone' i.e. corridors, inside
and outside the classrooms.
3. To attend all lectures, tutorials and extra-curricular activities
regularly.
4. To read notice board every day.
5. To use library, common room, or canteen during free time to
avoid disturbing classes.
6. To desist from tearing off pages from library books.
7. To assist college authorities in maintaining the garden.
8. To switch off lights and fans on vacating the classrooms.
9. To respect others' independence in order to earn your own.
10. To report, as a duty, all cases of impropriety and misbehavior
to the College authorities.
11. To observe self-discipline, cleanliness and punctuality.
Penalty for Defaulters
A black mark on the Identity Card for each fault.
Punishment to be decided by the Proctorial Board if the identity
card is marked thrice
Personalised
System of Guidance
A new personalised
system of guidance and mentoring is being introduced from this
year. Each student would be assigned to a particular teacher for
the entire duration of undergraduate studies. Students should
consult their mentors for all academic and non-academic matters.
